Arts & Crafts of Ireland
The Challenge
Arts & Crafts of Ireland is collaboration between Website Northern Ireland and Stephen Farnan of the TANK Gallery in Benburb. The website brings together a multitude of arts and crafts from various up and coming Irish artists under one website. Products range from Pottery & Ceramics, Paintings, Jewellery and Traditional Crafts.
The Strategy
Recognising that there is a large pool of talented craftspeople throughout Ireland who have tremendous design skills, but do not have the resources to create their own online shop, Website Northern Ireland created an online shop to provide these artists with an effective route to market.
Buying arts and crafts of the internet is a relatively new concept, and visitors would need to access clear images of the products they are buying – so a bespoke image viewing application was required.
The main target markets are Ireland, the UK and the USA, so although the site did not have multi-lingual requirements, we did need to provide a means for users to see pricing in their local currency.
The Results
Arts & Crafts of Ireland is a fresh and modern online shop providing local arts and crafts people to a whole new export market that they could not previously get access to. The site uses lots of product images, balanced with search engine friendly text to ensure its online success. The site received its first order within days of going live, and has been busy ever since.
